Pets in Afterlife

Pets were very important in afterlife. Cats and dogs were both mummified and put in tombs. Dogs were mummified and put at their owners feet when they were buried. Cats were also mummified. In fact, scientists found over three thousand mummified cats in Ancient Egyptian ruins. They were buried with their owners because they were special. Cats would go everywhere with their owners. Priests even said they had the power to guard the temples.
Dogs were also special in afterlife. Dogs were special to pharaohs. The Basenji was even painted on the walls of tombs in the Great Pyramid of Khufa. They were also called Pharaoh Hounds.
