Moroe is in the heart of Kushite Kingdom. Kushites moved their capital to Moroe, when the Persians forced the Kushites to retreat farther south. For most of its prosperous life, the empire served as the middle term in the trade of African goods to Northern Africa.
The area was rich with natural resources such as iron tools and spearheads. Iron was in demand. Moroe became an important center in iron making. It also became a trading area for trader's from the Middle East.
