Johnny Tremain Essay

March 24, 2004

With the revolutionary war at stake, Johnny helps the patriots overcome all challenges that he is faced with.  In Johnny Tremain, Johnny’s support for the patriots helps turn the tide in the revolution by secretly transporting British information.  He assists the Patriots in many ways.

Johnny helps progress the revolution by gaining data from the British by observing.  Rab suggests to Johnny, “Might be we could learn things Sam Adams and Doctor Warren and Paul Revere would like to know.” (p.134)  The boys want to stake out to get information for the sons of liberty.  Doctor Warren, Paul Revere, and Sam Adams encourage the idea of spying.  The information gained by spying helped the sons of liberty fight against the British.

Johnny and Rab give Dove alcohol to make him drunk so he would reveal information about the British.  Dove told the boys “Stranger told me to get the colonels horses all shined up good.  Told me get Nan around saddled by four somshing” (p.190) The colonel wants to use his horse for war.  The colonel needs his horse by the afternoon.  Dove gives a lot of information and helps put together the pieces of the puzzle.

Overall Johnny changes the flow for the Revolutionary War.  He greatly aids the Sons of Liberty and directs their path toward victory.
