1865 Lincoln’s assassinated takes place and Andrew Johnson takes Lincoln’s place

1861 Virginia, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Tennessee secede the union

1850 Fugitive Slave Act is put into place and states that the North has to help catch runaway slaves

1854 Kansas Nebraska Act is passed and establishes territories of Kansas and Nebraska

1868 The fourteenth amendment is admitted and it defines citizenship

1865 The thirteenth amendment is admitted to the constitution ruling out slavery

1864 Lincoln is inaugurated

1863 The Homestead Act becomes a law and settlers are allowed to claim land after have lived on it for 5 years

1863 Emancipation Proclamation is issued be Abraham Lincoln which helps to free slaves in the Confederate states
