Johnny Tremain Essay

March 15, 2004

The Journey of Indifference

Was Johnny the boy wonder?  Was he the boy that could do anything?  Was he the boy capable of hardship?  This is Johnny’s story.  In Johnny Tremain, Johnny, through his hard work and discipline, works at the Boston Observer which helps communication during the pre-Revolutionary war.  During the story, Johnny finds his hard work and perseverance put to use.

During Johnny’s long days of moaning and groaning, Johnny finally comes upon a job he enjoys.  People knew that Johnny was a gifted boy,”’… here’s that Johnny back again.  Will he do for a rider? ‘Yes.”’(p.89)  Johnny can become a talented boy who works hard in his daily activities.  Johnny also has a thriving ability to get his work done efficiently.  Johnny gets the satisfaction when he receives a job he enjoys.

Since papers are delivered to subscribers, Johnny must apply himself to complete his task.  “The Observer is out every Thursday and the papers are delivered to the Boston subscribers that day.” (p.90) I the end, Johnny must be responsible and send off the papers on time.  To finish his job, Johnny has to stay focused and on task.  My doing this, Johnny contributes to the intercourse of the Boston community.

Johnny is a large part of the pre-Revolutionary war in a way that without Johnny, fairly minimal information will be provided.  Johnny has a system to deliver papers without getting caught by the British.  This is Johnny’s story of intercommunication and persistence.
