The Burning of Johnny’s Hand

What would our nation be like with no independence or confidence? In Johnny Tremain, Johnny’s accident helps him by helping him become more independent and self confident in many different ways.

Johnny’s injured hand forces him to find new employment. “For a second, before the metal cooled, the inside of his right hand, wrist to finger tips, was cover coated with solid silver.” (p.33) (This shows that) Johnny was not careful and he burnt his hand. (This also shows that) with his injured hand he will be forced to find a new job on his own. I loosing his job and having to find new work makes Johnny start to believe in himself.

Johnny also gains his independence by having to find new employment. “This isn’t a full time job and I can’t do mare than sleep you, bait you, and clothe you. (p.90) ( This shows that) Johnny struggles to find a adequate job. (This also shows that) being fed, clothed and housed for his work will help him become less dependent.  Johnny’s injury helps him believe in himself and be able to work on his own.

Johnny’s burning of his hand helps him to become more self-confident and independent by making him find new employment and work on his own. Perhaps Johnny gained more than lost from this experience.
