Vocabulary

 

Confederacy- The eleven Southern states that separated from the union during the civil war.

Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico Territory, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia,

 

Union-Group of states that were anti slavery.

California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas,

Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota,

Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon,

Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin

 

Secede- To withdraw formally from membership in an organization, association, or alliance.

 

Moderate- An individual opposed to radical or extreme views or measures in politics or religion.

 

Emancipation- A condition of being freed from oppression, bondage, or restraint.

 

Civil Rights- The personal freedoms belonging to a person by virtue of his or her status as a citizen or as a member of society.

 

Draft- A call to military service.

 

Dissent- Disagreement or difference of opinion with established authority.

Surrender-to give up or to withdraw without letting the opposing side win.

 

Split Loyalty- Having opinions in both sides of a conflict.

Ex. Born in the South fight for the North.
