Johnny Tremain Essay

A person’s character is
based upon the way he handles challenging situations in his life. In Johnny Tremain, due to the lack of
employment during the Revolutionary War , Johnny faces the difficult obstacle
of finding a job, resulting in behavior change from bossy boy to a caring and
respectful, courteous gentleman. Johnny
changes personality throughout his life when he gets rejected of the job he
wanted and has to find a new job.
Johnny Tremain burns his hand working on
a sugar basin for Mr. Hancock, and in working on that he changes his
personality and pride. In the story
Johnny starts to work on a sugar basin when he burns his hand. Johnny has a maimed hand and was difficult
for him tot find a new trade. Since Johnny
has a crippled hand no one wants him as a new apprentice. Johnny, due to his nobility to function as a silversmith,
he feels horrible, making him a better and more modest person. After damaging his hand, Johnny faces different
obstacles making him a better and more respectful young man.
Out of work and not wanted as a
silversmith forces Johnny to find a new trade. Johnny Tremain goes into see Mr.
Hancock and asked if he like another apprentice, and he make s Johnny write, “The
letters were as clumsy as though written with a left hand. ‘Mr. Hancock, I’ve never seen worse writing.’”
(page 57) After Mr. Hancock disapproves Johnny’s proposal,
Johnny feels unwanted as a silversmith as if he has never done that trade before.
Johnny has to change many things about him
about him especially the way he writes and he changes his personality many times
from those obstacles. Johnny, rejected from a job as a silversmith, forces him to
find a new trade makes his personality change for the better.
Johnny is like a caterpillar who can not
handle tough challenges from another opponent. That when giving the right amount
of time changes into a big and beautiful butterfly that’s able to spread his wings
and fly. Also able to protect himself and handle hard situations with courage and the power
to know that he did a good job.
