Civli War Timeline

 

1850-Fugitive slave law –allowed slave owners to go into Free states and recapture their slaves. This was significant because the slaves where no longer free even though they where in Free states

 

1852- Harriet beecher  stowe published  Uncle tom’s cabin . This war was significant because it showed hardships that the slaves suffered and everyone finally realized what they went through

 

1854- Kansas-Nebraska act which enabled Nebraska to be a Free State and Kansas to be a slave state

 

1856- Dred Scott case- it was significant because it showed that the supreme was proslavery which made the republicans very angry

 

1859- John brown led a raid at Harper’s ferry along with 21 people. It was significant because it fueled the fire and was antislavery against proslavery

 

The civil war begins

 

1861-The confederates were the first to attack on the union and began the civil war. This was significant because they started the civil war which was a crucial moment in history

 

1861- The battle of fort Sumter opening shots where fired. This was significant because it was where the  first battle and they declared war there

 

1862-the confederates led an attack on fort Henry. This was significant because it opened the Tennessee River to union gunboats and shipping as far as muscle shoals, Alabama

 

1862- Battle of fort donelson.  This was significant because it was the first important union victory in the west and Nashville fell

 

1863- The battle of Gettysburg. This was significant because it was the greatest battle of the war and it led to the Gettysburg adress

 

1863- Gettysburg address Lincoln made a 2 minute speech. It was significant because dedicated Gettysburg to all of the people that had died during the battles of Gettysburg 

 

1863- The battle of Springfield. It was significant because the union took a heavy lead over the south and won over Springfield

 

1863- The battle of fort Anderson. This was significant because the union won another battle

 

1864- The battle on natural bridge, Florida. This was significant because the confederates finally t0ok a victory over the Americans and 174 Americans died

 

1865- The thirteenth amendment was passed on January 13. this was significant because it abolished slavery in all states forever!
