Leviticus 19:18

" 'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD .

How does this bible verse apply to our lives today?

I started my Serra career in the middle of first grade.  My teacher was Mrs. Enoch.   My people helped me feel welcome including Stephanie G., Emily M., Dayeanne H., and Christina M.  My best friend was Stephanie G.

Before I came to California, I lived in De Soto, Kansas.  I attended Holy Trinity Catholic School for pre-school, kindergarten, and the first half of first grade.

***

For pre-school, my teacher was Miss Laura and I absolutely adored her because I had the same first name as her.  For Christmas, we put one of our two shoes outside on the playground.  When we were taking our naps, our teacher and other teachers from the building (the elves)  put candy in our shoes.  When we woke up, I was so excited to have found candy in my shoe.

***

When I was in Kindergarten, we had the choice to either go to morning class or afternoon class.  I went to the afternoon class.  My teacher was Mrs. Georgie.  She was the nicest lady on earth.  What I remember most about her is that she didn't care if you made a mistake or not.  She always gave you as many chances as you needed.  I don't remember her ever getting anyone in trouble.  I think my biggest achievement that year, believe it or not, was learning how to draw a star.

My teacher in first grade was Sister Mary Ann Dice.  Everyone thinks that all nuns are strict, evil, and mean.  But she was actually extremely nice.  In December of 1996, I found out that I was going to move to California.  My teacher and peers gave me a going away party, and they all gave me presents when I left in January.  They even sent me some things from every student that says some form of, "I Miss You, Laura!!"  When I came, to Serra, I loved it here, but I am not able to choose between school because they are both terrific.

*************

What I remember most about my first day here at Serra is when Mrs. Enoch let me say the Pledge of Allegiance in front of the class.  I picked a girl to help me hold the flag.  That girl was Stephanie G.  We remained best friends for a long time.

My teacher, Mrs. Enoch,  made learning fun.  She always accepted me with open arms and let us do some very wacky projects.  We had "Pajama Day", "Under the Sea Day" and many more fun days like that.  We also learned the "Fifty Nifty" song about the 50 states.  She also took green food dye and colored the toilet bowls and the water in the toilets.  She also took green paint and painted little leprechaun feet outside our room to the field.  There are so many stories and memories from first grade with Mrs. Enoch.  We sent Flat Stanley our family members that were out of state.  We had to make up an adventure for Flat Stanley and why he was going to a different state.  Some people colored their Flat Stanley's very oddly.  Every year, there was a school play.  In first grade, the whole school participated in it.  The play was "The Wizard of Oz".  I was a munchkin because I was so small and in the first grade.

In second grade, my teacher was Mrs. Pongetti.  She was great also.  One day, as a treat, she gave us popsicles.  She was a  very devoted Catholic who taught me a lot about my religion and how much I should be proud of it.  I made my First Communion and my First Reconciliation at my parish, San Francisco Solano.  The school play that year was "Tom Sawyer".  I was a dancer and I got to twirl around little pink umbrellas and make my pink floral skirt fly in the air.

***

In third grade, my teacher was Mrs. Balsis.  She was the grandmother of one of my classmates, and she was an excellent teacher.  From what I have heard, an excellent grandmother too.  We had a lot of spelling bees and raced up and down the classroom to get to the front or back of the classroom first.  That was a very good year for me.  The play that year was "Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat".  I was in the chorus but, Nick N. played Joseph and did a fantastic performance.

In fourth grade, my teacher was Mrs. Povey.  She may have seemed strict to everybody else out on the playground, especially to the third graders, but she was actually very nice and funny.  She loved Looney Tunes and I sat at the table of Sylvester and Tweety.  Early in the year, we did a pioneer report in technology in class.  My pioneer was Francisco Pizarro.  Later on that year, we went on the Pilgrim.  That was a GREAT experience for all of us.  We took a field trip to "Heritage Hill" and lived the lives of other young girls and boys in the 1800's.  We dressed the part and wrote things on blackboard plates and everything!  It was so much fun.  That year, the play was "Annie".  Paige P. and Katie S. played Annie and both did an excellent job.  I was in the chorus once again and ended up tickling Bridget O. throughout the whole performance.

***

In fifth grade, my teacher was Mrs. Peterson.  In the beginning of the year for Back-to-School night, we made mummies.  Some were placed like they were trying to get out of the school building and some were placed like they were dining at a restaurant with friends.  In the middle to the end of the year we made State projects.  We made projects and wrote reports on our assigned states.  Towards the beginning of the year, we made a web page about who our heroes were.  In May, we did the Stations of the Cross.  We acted out the Stations of the Cross and drew them in a power point presentation.  I was Mary and was very proud to be Mary.  We held a Presidential election in class as well as voting for  our favorite candy was and much more.  The play that year was "Peter Pan".  Ian N. and Patrick L.  added a lot of "pixie dust" or magical ways to sell the shows.  I was in the chorus...again.

In sixth grade, my teacher was Ms. Passero.  I had a lot of troubles that year with a friend and Ms. Passero was there for me.  She was great.  I survived the year thanks to her help and guidance along the way.  That year, something very historical happened.  The plane crashes in Pennsylvania, the World Trade Centers, and the Pentagon happened.  Everyday, my teacher always said, "Good morning!"  But that morning was different.  She didn't say good morning or anything.  She just opened the door with a sad face.  The whole mood of the school changed that day.  It was very sad.  That year, Mrs. Tilton was our Religion and Language Arts teacher.  We spent a lot of time on diagramming sentences in her English classes.  We also slept a lot of time reading the Bible.  We went to Science Camp that year and had a blast.  There was a hoe-down for a long time and then we ate in the dining hall.  We went on a night hike and Allison F. and I really needed to go to the bathroom.  So  I said I couldn't find the group because they were hiding somewhere in the bushes.  So when Allison and I got back to the meeting hall, we raced to the bathrooms and everybody looked at us really oddly.  It was hilarious!  In technology we did a Natural Wonder Project that talked about some of the different wonders of the world.  We spent a lot of time on that!  That year, the play was "Cinderella".  Brittany L. and Katherine W.  played Cinderella.  The show would not have been the same if we had anybody else playing Cinderella.  Now, just guess what I was here in this play...chorus.  But, luckily I was an Indian also.

In seventh grade, my teacher was Mrs. Matsukane.  She was always a very avid reader and a big "Harry Potter" fan.  Her cell phone ring was the "Harry Potter" theme song.  I had a blast in her class.  With Mrs. Marsh, we did an Animal Kingdom project that talked about the different classifications of animals.  The dances were a blast!!!  Most people attended and they were very fun. The play later that year was "Bye, Bye Birdie".  All my friends were in the play, which made it very interesting!  I was Deborah Sue and I was in the Quartette that was the back-up singing group.  It was a lot of stress, but it was worth it.  It was the best play I have ever participated in.  I ran for student council Treasurer that year and lost, but the other candidate deserved it more than me.  I became a Member at Large

This year I am in eighth grade.  I am looking forward to being the best leader of the school that I can be, graduating from Serra, and going on to High School.  My homeroom teachers are Mrs. Muzzy and Mrs. Tilton.  So far, all my teachers have taught me so much, including many life lessons.  We went to leadership camp which taught us to not only have a good leader's attitude but also to gain the qualities of a good leader.  Our two main themes for leadership camp were cooperation and respect.  They also taught us to respect everybody even if we don't like them and to cooperate with everybody we work with even if we don't like them.  One activity we did was "Gilligan's Island".  We had to build a raft with pipes, wood, and a Styrofoam block.  The whole team had to build it and get across at least 3 times and someone had to push the people on the raft.  That made us cooperate even if we didn't like some people in our teams.  This year has taught me to believe in myself and to have confidence in myself no matter what the situation may be.

Three things I do well are:

Female_singer_microphone.gif - (4K)1. I sing very well because I have a good voice.

2. I act well because I practice it a lot in my spare time.

3. I also listen to my friends very well because I care about all my friends very dearly.

Three things I would like to improve about myself are:

1. I would like to be more caring and compassionate to my friends.  Even though I listenFriendship_rose.gif - (11K) very well, I'm not always the best friend I know I can be.

2. I would like to improve my attitude towards my brother and other family members because I know I can be a better daughter and a better sister.

3. I would also like to be more trustworthy because sometimes I say things that were not supposed to be repeated.

Three things I enjoy doing are:

1. I enjoy singing because I believe that I am very good at it.

2. I enjoy acting because it is a load of fun to act like someone your not.

3.  I also like to play basketball because you get to run around...sometimes aimlessly and sometimes blocking other people.

A goal I have for this year is to get the best grades I can get and be the best friend I can be.

I will achieve this goal by:

1. Studying very hard and not letting people or other things distract me.

2. Being trustworthy to my friends so I can have the best friends I want.

3. Doing my best on tests, quizzes, homework, etc.

Three careers that I am interested in are:

1. I am interested in being a trial prosecution lawyer because I can debate and believe I can win.  Whenever I have an opinion, it is very strong and I hold myself to it.

2.  I am also interested in doing something to pursue my singing voice.  I do not know what I want to do yet, but I want to do something with my voice.

3. One of my other careers I am interested in is being a teacher.  I'm not very patient, but I can be when I need to be.

Three school subjects related to my career interests and why are:

1. Public Speech and Debate relates to being a lawyer because I would need to know how to speak in public and how to debate really well to win a case.

2. I would actually need all the subjects in the school in order to be a teacher because since I would teach any subject or all subjects then I would need to know about all the subjects.

3. To pursue my singing voice, I would probably have to be very good in music class and learn the notes really well so I could sing the right notes on the right beats.

I have learned many life lessons this year.  So far, I have learned to always tell the truth even though you might get in trouble, never go along with the crowd, and do what you feel is right even if you're the only one that feels it is right.  I try to always live by one statement--Stand up for what is right, even if you're standing alone.
