A Big Change
Have you ever known someone who has gone from one person to another in a relatively short time? In Johnny Tremain, a devastating hand accident affects Johnny’s psychological well-being, and causes him to shift from a cocky boy to a humble man. This causes several changes, not only mental ones.
Johnny’s
tangeant from arrogance occurs quite soon after his injury; it does not take long after that for him to
be different from his old self. Johnny walks around with his hand in his pocket; he has
become humbled by its presence (p. 250).
Johnny’s crippled hand causes him to be
ashamed; he loses his reason to be haughty.
Being crippled and not domineering causes Johnny to be truly poor in
spirit. Johnny’s
tweak in his character causes him to be a big help in the future.
The wonderful shift that Johnny
undergoes makes him an important part of the revolution, and a better friend
and person. Johnny, after his transformation, helps out with the
resistance to the British (p.p. 242-244).
Johnny has become willing to help with
whatever happens to be beneficial to others.
Johnny now naturally obeys others instead of always wanting to be the
boss. Johnny’s
transformation had helped himself and the people around him.
Johnny’s personality mutates such that he goes from being a tyrant to a follower, an arrogant person to a humble man, and a rude grouch to a nice, friendly guy. He matures greatly. He has now become a good person, and a great neighbor.
