What will arrogance do to you? In Johnny Tremain, Johnny has a tendency
to be arrogant due to his difficult job as a silversmith. Is Johnny strong enough to fight the temptations?
When people
tease Johnny, he gets frustrated easily.
“This was too much for Johnny. He
turned on the little girls. Cil, you can just about keep your mouth shut until
then.” (p. 17). Johnny doesn’t have much
patients and he angers easily when Cilla makes fun of him. When Johnny gets
mad, he says things that are sometimes hurtful towards others. Johnny’s job as a silversmith makes him balk
when he has an audacious task to do.
Johnny has a
tough time trying not to lose his temper when Dove and Dusty make him mad. “Dove, Dusty, Johnny was yelling, build up
the furnace, fetch in some charcoal. Hi! You lazy, good-for-nothing dish mops.”
(p. 28). If Johnny’s laborious work acquires
hard craftsmanship, he tends to fall into a bad mood. Johnny often gets vain when confronted with a
difficult job. It is well shown that
when things do not come easy, he tends to be arrogant towards those around him.
Johnny, a
talented, young silversmith often lets his arrogance take over his talent. People that make Johnny frustrated, they get
yelled at due to his exceptionally short temper.
